European Glass Context 2008
European Glass Context 2008 forms part of a biennial symposium for European Contemporary glass and ceramics. This biennial symposium takes place on the Island of Bornholm, Denmark in September and October 2008.
For the first time this event presents contemporary European glass. Through exhibitions, conference, workshops, master classes and a technical display an opportunity will arise to discuss and experience the situation of European glass today.
All of the 27 members of the European Union are participating, as well as Iceland, Norway and Switzerland.
The three prize winners are:
Angela Jarman – Established artists
"Angela Jarman´s work is strikingly original – she takes forms from nature, which she alters through repetition and change of scale. The mastery of the material is superb. Jarman works with textures and contrasts to create perfect objects that are both seductive and enigmatic."
Pernille Braun Jørgensen - Emerging artists
"Pernille Braun Jørgensen is a young artist with an amazing sureness of touch. She has an experimental approach and she manipulates the material with controlled spontaneity.
The results are both alluring and repulsive. We are looking forward to seeing more of her work."
Aldo Bakker - Industrial design
"Aldo Bakkers thinly blown drinking glasses are of a perfect simple elegance.
They are both beautiful and functional and would be a joy to drink from."
